Eating Out With Kids

Kids love dining out even though you might not think so at the time, especially when they are throwing a tantrum in the restaurant or have just dumped a bowl of pasta on the floor in front of the waiter.

Some parents stop dining out when their little ones come along because it all seems like too much hard work. But I have always loved this area of my life and was determined that wouldn’t change when I had my first born..but not for long.

For parents who want family friendly places to eat out with the kids, relax - there is hope.

When your kids are very young start by heading out to lunch and be on the lookout for restaurants that are near a favourite attraction you know your kids will enjoy. That way you can make a day of it. Once you have fine-tuned your dining experience during the day make the next dining out experience a dinner. However, be sure to make it early so you that you can be home before that witching hour.

Don’t be afraid to phone ahead. Asking some simple questions will soon give you a good idea if the restaurant or café is child-friendly. Find out whether they provide high-chairs, offer children’s menus with healthy alternatives and questions that will assist you in choosing the right restaurant for your family to dine in.

Children learn about food and eating from the adults around them and what they learn now they will take into their adult lives. Healthy choices for children when eating out include steamed foods, vegetable-based dishes, stir-fries, soups and sushi at Asian restaurants. Hamburgers with salad instead of fried extras, thin style pizzas with vegetables and lean meats and sandwiches are all good options.

Are you next to take the step of eating out?

Surviving

Five of us visited Ms Chua yesterday evening at GH Melaka. She is totally unconscious and slept through whilst we were there. One Staff Nurse (SN) came by for her routine medical check and we sort of chatted with her for a moment about Ms Chua. We were told that Ms Chua has been unconscious even before admitting to the ward. No changes at all. She sleep through day and night. Some girlfriends of ours can’t help weeping after looking at her condition. Me included.

She has undergone chemotherapy for the past 6 months and is fit to work. But 2-3 weeks ago her colleagues (known her over 11 years) noticed that Ms Chua started to babble and looked weak. Concerned colleagues followed her for her daily routine in the clinic. “Something doesn’t seemed right”, said Christine. Words pass through to her doctor-boss and was immediately advised to seek treatment. She refused, claiming her next appointment is not due yet. Following that no one knows what has happened because everyone has gone back for the CNY festive.

Liver Cancer

I have googled for liver cancer information but none came close to this site I found. www.mdanderson.org Look up for Frequently Asked Questions. The information is written precisely as what is mentioned to us during our trip to the doctor’s office in Taiwan.

Devastated

No one like to fall sick even the slightest viral spread. But none even like to find out when he/she is bring pronounced disease stricken. A close friends’ family member has just undergone ovary (one of her ovary) surgery that is malignant. Being a Major in the army she is fit yet healthy, of course. But why does this happen to her? News came one day that the cancerous cells has spreaded to the other ovary (2nd ovary). Another surgery is scheduled. While I was listening carefully with every word my friend was pouring over over the phone she told me that she may need more information from me/us about cancer, liver cancer. I asked, “Why?”… She said.. “She’s tumor in the upper part of the liver also…”. How can I say anymore.. my heart sank. A reminiscence of my late sis-in-law, Angie, came to my mind… it was awful.

Later in the evening a close friend of mine, Christine, rang me asking for Hospis Melaka’s contact. Why does she need Hospis number? A friend of hers (Ms Chua) is bedridden with lung and brain cancer and now “waiting for time” at GH Melaka. Oh my gosh! Her husband, a dialysis patient himself, collapsed with a raised 200++ high BP after hearing the news.. I can’t believe myself hearing it. I saw her perfectly fine walking on the road with Christine going out for lunch sometime mid-January. By now, I have way too many questions in my head. *^*&#%^@* +@!!*# Why?? We’ll be visiting Ms Chua real soon.

Happy Christmas!

HAPPY CHRISTMAS to ya! Be extra careful if you are planning a trip home. Stay safe..

Whimsical Days

I have been completely silent since my last writing months ago for my unpredictable and erratic schedule. There’s two coloring contest for my kids during the school holiday, revision with the kids, planning for my next hamper making, meet-my-suppliers, artwork for the hampers, daily errands, and the list goes on and on…sometime I wished there are more than 24 hours a day! I get comments and questions from friends, “How do you get so many things done in short period?”, “How do you do that?”..What amazed me is that I DON’T EVEN KNOW MYSELF.. perhaps the moment to moment, some planning-ahead, and support from hubby, friends and family does the trick. It’s hard but when you start you can’t stop!!

Unemployed and miserable

What do you do if you are out of job?

What do you do you when you tried and still can’t find a job?

What’s your experience like? Do send me your comments and grueling experiences (if you have) while looking out for a job!? And if you found one-heaven sent job opportunity.. what’s your secret behind it?

A little of this and a little of that…love

After all, we’ll never be out of love eh, would we? You love your wife-she loves you, love your husband-he loves you, love your family-they love you, love your friend-they scream after you! (haha), love your kids–and that must be abundant!! People (especially with kids or planning to have) loves spoiling their brats to their nerves. From day one when you heard your gynae confirming “Yes, congratulations …” (you know they’ll be happy for you) spontaneously your brain cells sparks off!! Yipee! I’m a dad/mom! “I had to get bottles/diapers/tees/toiletries…” and the lists goes on…but what lies beyond ahead is the future with very little experience in hand (if you are new parents). As I am still learning myself  I just have to tell you this,  IT SURE IS THE MOST CHALLENGING “work” of all plus being a 24/7 its just never gonna end. However much to my liking, being home means being with the kids and to know their everything but nevertheless I couldn’t help to notice they are growing and becoming their individual self. No one is the same.

Ready for some action?

I stumbled onto a schoolmate of mine during the festive season recently and we were very deep into discussion about safety in public and at home and methods used during emergency, which is especially important for ladies. We heard about using pepper spray (but what if during an uneventful day your spray finished or not enough to do the job!!), key-stab action, umbrella-spike action (hello.. how many in this wonder world a girl/women to carry an umbrella walking down a street??), shoe-heel pounce (I know I don’t wear any of it these days for taking care of kids and groceries????) … whatever it is I sure know that it sure worth it to buy some time to get out from the tortures situation… ) *@!&*%^$#/?^*! … but run for your life!!! Those that has not run for life will definitely can do so in this situation for your adrenalin hiked-up and send those zillions of signals to your brain and in return a speedy-super-woman running down for the street!

This schoolmate of mine used to enrolled herself in a martial art training graduated with a colored belt years back but unfortunately since migrating overseas and with a demanding job plus traveling she had to decrease the number of training to zero (as mentioned to me). I really think it’s a waste to not continue training.. all the sweat and stamina and not to mention the time and energy spent.. at least when we need to use it to protect ourself it’ll definitely come in handy to knock somebody out (or so to speak). A hoarse world, is it safe for us?

Living in this instant materialistic and undeniably unforeseen future for all of us…can it be a safe for our future generation? To Live? To Stay Alive?

No one can ever guarantee what lies for the future to come but to pray and hope for it will be a haven for the years to come..and yet brutality, kidnapping, robbing is fiercely knocking on our door. How can we safeguard our family from this act of crime? It has become a fashion and trend and a JOB for them to sinisterly work around the neighborhood 24hrs, 7days a week. And yet they get off the hook easily.

It will be a heaven that everyone is born with a will of goodness in oneself, kind, loving and gentle, yet humble in another. I suppose no one is perfect in this world. But still there are a certain number of people do care, however.

Love Yourself - Part 3

For all ladies out there… If you think of getting the tight fitting push up bra think again! Tight bras will press on the breasts’ blood vessels that carry oxygen to the breast. It will deterred the blood flow and subsequently cut down the amount of oxygen to the breasts. Cancer doesn’t happen overnight and there’s always a contributing external factors at work and the bra could be one of them. Generally, ladies tend to favor tight bras versus comfort and the misconception that tighter bras gives better support or because they are shy about their sizes. So ladies, wear the correct bra size or go braless more often as a measure for cancer prevention.
